On the 19th of March 2011, FM YY’s Lowtide programme, hosted by presenters Neil and Graeme, held a special broadcast for the victims of the great Tohoku earthquake that struck Japan on the 11th of March.

Today’s special guest was Scott from Tokyo who gave his experience of the earthquake from the perspective of a foreigner living in Tokyo and the current situation in Tokyo regarding power blackouts and panic-buying.
Guests also included Masaki and Stefan from FM YY who talked about FM YY’s role in the recovery efforts and multilingual emergency broadcasting as well as explaining the current situation and what it will mean for the future of the disaster affected areas based on FM YY’s experiences of the great Hanshin-Awaji earthquake 16 years before.
