We must apologize that we found a significant error in the English translation in our Useful Information for Foreign Women Living in Japan (2013 version) .
Please correct the error as indicated below if you already have the book.
(error on p.84):
②2 認知による国籍取得 Acquisition of Nationality by Recognition
(the error underlined) There are two ways of birth recognition: one is before birth and the other is after birth. If recognition is done before birth, a child of Japanese lineage becomes a Japanese national upon the birth registration made by a Japanese parent. However, if the recognition of the birth is done after the birth, it is necessary to wait until the child turns 20 years of age and then go to the Bureau of Legal Affairs for obtaining Japanese nationality.
