◆Nellis Report from an intern from Taiwan 台湾から来たインターン生ネリスの感想
It was a special opportunity to observe the training of fire extinguisher at the local community at 丸五市場.
Before heading to the place, Ms. Kim took us to take a walk around the neighborhood of 新長田, she also informed us that the nearby highway collapsed during the 1995 Hanshin Earthquake. Looking at these places nowadays, it’s very difficult to imagine how things were like after that earthquake and the resilience local residents have together been really admirable.
Afterarrivingat 丸五市場,someresidentswerealreadywaitingfortheeventtostart while the Kobe Fire Station and local community association were doing the preparation. Many parents took their kids to participate in this event, even the local baseball club was here! The fire fighters introduced about the proper way to use fire extinguisher and invited the audience to come
up and practice one by one.
Seeing local people have strong connections with each other while having high participation in these events is really admirable. In Taiwan, these trainings are normally done at the schools, and not every student would have the opportunity to practice how to use the fire extinguisher. Some of local communities also hold these campaigns, but mostly just the speech or lecture, instead of hands-on experiences.
